Meet Cara Atwell PT, DPT, OCS, OMPT, CMTPT
Hi! I obtained my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). I also studied at the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!), where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology, and minored in dance.
I have always been involved in the community that I call home. At UMB, I was an anatomy lab assistant for incoming students, held the position as a community service representative for my class, and volunteered at UMB’s physical therapy clinic that provided services to underserved populations. At UVA, I was involved in two dance companies, was a member of the Raven Society and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity.
I believe I have to be the best at what I do in order to appropriately serve the Annapolis community as a health care professional. I have worked hard throughout my career to continue to further my education and skills as a physical therapist. I am a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, and a certified Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist (OMPT) through a manual therapy certification program, instructed by internationally renowned Physical Therapist Jim Meadows. I have obtained a certification as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) in dry needling through the internationally recognized Myopain Seminars. I am also a board certified clinical specialist in Orthopedics (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. I am currently enrolled in a fellowship program through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy.
When I am not working to make the greater Annapolis region a more pain-free, fit, and active community I enjoy leading an active lifestyle myself! I love to dance and have been doing so since I was five. I currently participate in a local dance company, Impulse Movement Project. I also enjoy being outdoors, at the beach, or on the water.
